ABOUT US
A Brief History

In 1964, a group of top officials led by James Aiona formed the Hawaii Basketball Officials Association to better serve the community of Hawaii basketball officials. For the next 25 years, the officiating world grew to new heights servicing all high school leagues on Oahu as well as the college assignor for University of Hawaii games.

In 1989, the name changed to Hawaii State Basketball Officials Association and under Sam Delos Reyes, the Association continued to provide services to the Oahu Interscholastic Association and its various leagues.

In 2003, under Louis Fuentes and Thomas Yoshida, the Association continues to develop into one of the strongest officiating group in the State In 2005, the new name of OBRA was created to form a new direction of teaching, mentoring and communication among fellow officials.

With a roster of over 80 officials, OBRA services the Oahu Interscholastic Association for 44 years and features high school and college officials.
