
In 1964, a
group of top officials led by James
Aiona formed the Hawaii Basketball
Officials Association to better
serve the community of Hawaii basketball
officials. For the next 25 years,
the officiating world grew to new
heights servicing all high school
leagues on Oahu as well as the college
assignor for University of Hawaii
games.
In 1989, the
name changed to Hawaii State Basketball
Officials Association and under
Sam Delos Reyes, the Association
continued to provide services to
the Oahu Interscholastic Association
and its various leagues.
In 2003, under
Louis Fuentes and Thomas Yoshida,
the Association continues to develop
into one of the strongest officiating
group in the State
In 2005, the new name of OBRA was
created to form a new direction
of teaching, mentoring and communication
among fellow officials.
With a roster of over 80 officials, OBRA services the Oahu Interscholastic Association for 44 years and features high school and college officials.
